Senior Moments are to be celebrated! That’s what it felt like last Saturday evening (September 10th) when Jefferson Council on Aging (JCOA) hosted their Fifth Annual Senior Moments. Over 230 guests gathered at the Chateau Golf and Country Club and reveled throughout the evening knowing that their support will help provide the guidance, empowerment and support for Jefferson Parish seniors to age with dignity and independence in the place and manner of their choice. We value the leadership, passion and hard work of the Senior Moments’ Co-Chairs Marie Clesi and Michelle Yenni.

The evening featured signature dishes from the Chateau kitchen including coconut lobster, seafood eggplant napoleon, steak bites bordelaise and to top off the evening, warm fudge beignets. We had signature drinks “Mama Collins” (pink) and “Papa Collins” (blue) to salute the seniors of our community along with an open bar for all to take in. To view photos from the evening click here

The Patron Party featured renowned jazz vocalist Germaine Bazzle and the George French Trio. Germaine gave it her all with her personal style and unique voice. Germaine and George set the stage on a very high note for rest of the celebration.  Vocalist Meryl Zimmerman then sang her heart out with jazz and swing. She even paid tribute to an original 2017 NYX purse, one of the featured items in the auction line up. Guests received a special treat with master pianist, Kristin Albarado and Kyle Jones who performed opera, and show tunes. Meryl then came back on stage to close the event.

A highlight of the evening included Chef Joey LaBella who auctioned his culinary talents live for an 8 person dinner party. Greg Cantrell, of Linfield, Hunter and Junius had the winning bid.

Guests enjoyed a silent auction with 50 featured items ranging from jewelry and artwork, hotel stays and restaurant offerings. We even had a Kirby Vacuum cleaner. Sought after items included a framed, numbered and signed print by James Michalopoulas, and a Tom Mathis Sterling Jade and Diamond Ring from Symmetry. Patrons also purchased deluxe trips to Tuscany, Alaska, Greece and New York.

The evening would not have been possible without the sponsorship level of support from key businesses and individuals within the community. Leading the sponsorship team at the Wisdom level was Ashton Ryan at First NBC Bank. At the Prudence level, we appreciate Gulf Coast Bank & Trust, and Peoples Health. We thank the Experience Level sponsors: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana/HMO Louisiana, East Jefferson General Hospital, Entergy, Guardian Angel Hospice, Pontchartrain Capital LLC, and Treasure Chest Casino. Each of these top sponsors had a dedicated table adorned with a handmade iron sculpture donated by James Gorman.

We are grateful to all our supporters from staff members and volunteers, the Senior Moments committee, and the JCOA Board of Directors who took a leadership role in advocating our cause.
