Louisiana SenioRx Program:

The Louisiana SenioRx program was created in 2003 by the Louisiana Legislature to provide resources to help senior citizens access and apply for manufacturer's discount cards and pharmaceutical assistance programs.

This program is administered by the Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs through community agencies that work with area seniors to match them to appropriate assistance programs.

Eligibility for the SenioRx Program participation is limited to residents of the State of Louisiana who meet, at a minimum, the following criteria:

  • Must be 60 years of age or older.
  • Must have a gross income that does not exceeding three hundred percent (300%) of the federal poverty guidelines.
  • Must not have voluntarily canceled a state or federal prescription drug program or a private prescription reimbursement plan within six (6) months prior to application for enrollment in the SenioRx Program.

Jefferson Council on Aging, Inc. administers the Louisiana SenioRx Program in Jefferson, St. Charles, St. James and St. John the Baptist parishes.

Scheduled pharmaceutical assistance activities are planned for each of the parishes in the planning and service area. Older adults needing assistance with prescriptions should contact Jefferson Council on Aging, Inc.’s SenioRx Program at 1-866-865-7975 or email seniorx@jcoa.net

Prescription Drug Internet Resources and Information:

We know that the cost of prescription drugs is a major hurdle for many senior citizens and others on fixed incomes that do not have prescription drug benefits. We have developed resource information that will assist you. This information includes the various programs, application processes and information about free or low or reduced cost on particular medications. Your local council on aging may be able to provide additional information on Prescription Drug assistance programs and resources particular to your area.

Of course the internet is an ideal place to search for information about prescription drugs. However, when you use the internet, look for internet pharmacies that are VIPPS certified. This means that they are recognized by the National Association of Board of Pharmacy as a Verified Internet Pharmacy Provider Service (VIPPS). You can find out more about VIPPS pharmacies at www.nabp.net.
