Legal Services

The purpose of this program is to:
Increase the accessibility of legal representation, counseling and information to individuals age 60 and over in the planning area. Only non criminal and non fee-generating cases may be accepted for service.

Eligible participants:
Persons who are 60 years of age or older and who reside in Jefferson Parish. Priority shall be given to providing services in areas, which are underserved, and to areas in which there are a large number of older individuals who have the greatest economic need for such services. Special emphasis must be given to providing services to individuals with greatest economic need, greatest social need, low-income minority individuals, and older individuals residing in rural areas.
This program is funded under Title III - B (Supportive Services) of the Older American Act.
This program is contracted through The Pro Bono Project. The Pro Bono Project provides volunteer attorneys to assist with elder law issues. The Project has established legal clinics at several of the senior centers.

JCOA completes the initial assessment information for the legal services provider. If you need legal services or assistance you may complete the on-line application for services.
