Senior Centers

There are 11 Senior Centers affiliated with the Jefferson Council on Aging (JCOA) in Jefferson Parish.  Most of the centers are open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding some holidays.  The 11 Senior Centers are located at:

 

          Bridge City          Estelle          Grand Isle

          Gretna                Harahan       Jefferson

          Kenner                Lafitte          Marrero

          Metairie              Westwego

 

The centers offer many social, educational, and health services opportunities for their members and their guests.  Senior Center membership is available to Jefferson Parish residents who are 60+ years old and their spouses (regardless of the spouse's age) at no cost.  Some of the opportunities offered at JCOA's Senior Centers include:

 

  •      Exercise, wellness, and health promotion classes
  •      Frequent health fairs which feature health monitoring activities
  •      Crafts, bingo, various board games, and bean bag baseball
  •      Computer and language classes
  •      Art, dance, and music classes
  •      Legal services clinics
  •      Occasional day trips to special events and other venues
  •      Special programs during some holidays
  •      Monthly birthday recognition events
 
Each of the Senior Centers also serve as a JCOA nutrition site where eligible participants can enjoy a hot noontime meal.  These meals provide seniors one-third of the daily nutrition they require.  These are Congregate Meals and their menu varies throughout the year.  Additionally, special meals are offered by most of the Senior Centers to celebrate certain events, such as monthly luncheons to honor center members whose birthdays ocur during that month.
